# Handoff: Upstate NY Family History Mission

## What this mission is

Three parent-figures, three research/care missions, one Central New York driving loop out of Syracuse Sep 29 to Oct 2, 2026.

1. **Roy Salinsky** (dad who raised him) — CARE. Physical grave work at his parents' plot at **Pine Plains Cemetery, 8686 Henry Clay Blvd, Clay NY 13041**. Optional: also his mother's parents (Poplawski line) at **Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer NY 13350** (wasp nest per Roy 2019 email).

2. **Raymond M. Galavotti** (biological father, living) — DISCOVERY. Records research at Madison County Clerk / Historian in **Wampsville** and Canastota Public Library. Ray Sr predeceased him (obituary June 2017), Betty Britton Galavotti (Ray Sr's wife, Alex's paternal grandmother) died Aug 2026 and is buried at **Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota**. Ray Sr and Betty likely there too, one-cemetery three-generation stop.

3. **Julie Alexandra Wilson** (mother) — RECORDS + possibly GRAVES. Oswego roots per Alex. Voice-note ask sent (or drafted, verify — see below) via mom-line for her parents' names, birth years, cemetery, and siblings. Records offices: **Oswego County Clerk, Historian, Historical Society (Richardson-Bates House 135 E 3rd St)**.

Add Amex Premium Car Rental Protection ($25 flat) instead of Hertz CDW.
- **Tue night lodging** in Syracuse or Utica. Utica is closer to Herkimer / Wampsville, downtown Syracuse is closer to Pine Plains and the train station.

Lenox Rural Cemetery in Canastota (all three Galavotti generations) fits on the Wampsville-records day (Fri morning or Thu late afternoon).

## Galavotti family map (what's confirmed from public records)

**Great-grandparents:** Ranato "Ray" Galavotti (1903-1986) + Rosa Micheletti. Find a Grave memorial exists.

**Grandparents:** Raymond E. Galavotti Jr. (born Sept 16, 1928, Canastota; died June 21, 2017, Blossvale, age 88) + **Betty L. (Britton) Galavotti** (1930-2026, died Aug 17, 2026 age 95). **Betty's obit ran Aug 18 in Syracuse Post-Standard.** Buried **Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota**. Betty's maiden name Britton — a fourth surname branch to research.

**Alex's biological father (likely):** **Raymond M. Galavotti + Tammy** of Canastota. Named in Betty's obit as survivors alongside brother **James + Nancy Galavotti of Hilton Head, SC**. LinkedIn search from public Google turned up nothing; would need Chrome-driven search from Alex's logged-in session.

**Likely paternal aunts (Britton line, sisters of Betty):** Dorothy A. Winker, Deborah M. Cafalone, Margaret A. Devine.

**Other Galavottis to look at:** Chris Galavotti (Dept of Defense LinkedIn), Thomas Galavotti (Sigma Nu fraternity treasurer LinkedIn) — potential cousins.

**Sensitive:** Betty died 6 weeks ago. Alex may not have known his paternal grandmother existed until recently. Handle with care.

## Pack + protocol for grave visits

- Soft-bristle nylon brushes (never wire)
- Wooden or plastic scraper for grime
- Wasp spray (Spectracide) — knock nest down at dusk night before if cleaning Calvary Herkimer
- Battery string trimmer (rent Home Depot ~$40/day or buy Walmart ~$45)
- 2-3 gallons water in jugs (no spigots at cemetery)
- Gloves, kneeling pad, garbage bags
- Geraniums or gravel per Roy's memory of what his mom planted
- Camera / phone for before/after (send to Roy)

**Ask the cemetery office first** about visitor-cleaning rules. Call day-before: Pine Plains, Calvary (via Catholic parish), Lenox Rural.

- **23andMe** Family Tree: add Ray as a linked non-user (matches DNA relatives to that node).
- **GEDmatch**: upload raw 23andMe data to pool with AncestryDNA + MyHeritage users.
- **Chrome-driven LinkedIn search** for Raymond M. Galavotti (Alex's bio dad). Uses `reference_linkedin_read_via_chrome.md` pattern.

## Open items owed to Alex (in order of urgency)

1. **Send Julie the voice note asking about her parents.** Drafts prepared in prior session, not yet confirmed sent. Contents: names, birth years, cemetery in Oswego, siblings, and life stories (cancers, wars, divorces, catastrophes, successes). Send in the morning per Latin-America timing rule.
2. **Book rental car + Tue night lodging.** See recommendations above.
3. **Send Alex the Amtrak train # + confirmation** so the calendar event can be verified/updated if it's not 281.
4. **Pull Betty's full obit via Chrome** (Cloudflare blocked WebFetch). Confirms all names and cemetery.
5. **LinkedIn deep search** for Raymond M. Galavotti in Canastota.
6. **Confirm PDC lodging** for Alex's Fri Oct 2 arrival before he leaves CUN.
